Missile Stakes
Looking for early info on this year’s Missile Stakes? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before this year’s race.
Run over 1,200 metres, the Missile Stakes is a Group 2 race traditionally taking place at either Rosehill Gardens Racecourse or Royal Randwick. Open to three-year-olds and above the event is run at weight-for-age and attracts a quality line-up of spring-bound sprinters.
A number of turf stars have won the Missile Stakes over the years including Lonhro (2002), Pierata (2018), Alizee (2019), and Eduardo (2020) who went on to win the Group 1 The Galaxy and Group 1 Doomben 10,000 in 2021.
The Missile Stakes now serves as a potential lead-up and form race into the $20 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick in October.

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Group 1 performed daughter of I Am Invincible, I Am Me ($2.40F), used her sustained speed to lead all-the-way and salute for the punters in the 2023 Missile Stakes results to make it three-from-three at the Rosehill track.
The event was marred by the tragic death of the Joe Pride-trained Big Parade who went amiss mid-way down the straight and was subsequently euthanised due to a suspected fractured shoulder.

Which Horse Will Win The Missile Stakes in 2023?
The best way to pick which horse will win the Missile Stakes in 2023 is to take into account any lead-up form, assess the Missile Stakes barriers, and look at the weights.
Additional factors to consider when selecting the Missile Stakes winner include:
- Local Experience – Horses that race well at Randwick and Rosehill should have the advantage.
- Autumn Lead Up – If there are any horses that did well in the Randwick Guineas who have entered the field, they are worth taking a closer look at.
- First-Up – Most spring sprinters are resuming in the Missile Stakes so looking for the best first-up performers is key. I Am Me (2023) was the latest first-up Missile Stakes winner.
Missile Stakes Favourites 2023
Alizee ($1.30 in 2019) followed by Eduardo ($2.30 in 2020) and I Am Me ($2.40 in 2023) are the latest favourites in Missile Stakes betting to salute for the punters.
Early favourites for the 2023 Missile Stakes include Joe Pride’s still lightly-raced seven-year-old Big Parade, returning I Am Invincible mare I Am Me from the Maher/Eustace stable, and Godolphin’s Astern four-year-old Golden Mile who won the 2022 Caulfield Guineas.
